Water Softener FAQs
If you only need a water softener system replaced, it shouldn’t take more than an hour to complete. It will take longer if you’re having a new system installed. Our team can provide you with an estimation once the job has been evaluated.
Water softener systems help to remove the magnesium and calcium present in your water, thus turning it from hard water to soft water. This is achieved through a process of ion exchange.
Hard water contains calcium and magnesium which over time can collect in your plumbing system. This can lead to hard water corrosion, which damages your pipes and appliances.
A water softener removes these minerals which in turn helps to protect your pipes and appliances. Soft water is also said to be better for your hair and skin.
Not necessarily. Water softener systems are often installed under kitchen sinks. However, they can be installed along any point in your water supply.
Generally, it is fine to drink softened water. There are only a few situations where it would be inadvisable to drink softened water. This being for those on medically prescribed low sodium diets and for the reconstitution of infant formula powders.
Once the system has been installed, it should take around a few days to a week for your whole house to have softened water. This may vary depending on your water usage.
There are three main forms of salt used for water softening these are salt pellets, salt crystals and potassium chloride.
It’s generally not harmful to mix types, but it is advised not to. This is because some water softeners may work with all types of salt and some may only work with certain types.
