Oil Boilers FAQs
Oil boilers work in a very similar fashion to gas boilers. As the name suggests, instead of using gas as a source of energy, these boilers burn oil. They are sometimes used in properties that do not have direct access to a gas line.
Oil is ignited inside a combustion chamber and then water is heated via the heat exchanger. The hot water then heats your home by running through a radiator system.
As with all types of boilers, you may want to consider upgrading it around the 15 year mark. Older boilers can be more costly to repair (due to the difficulty of sourcing parts) and may need to be repaired more often.
Oftentimes, it can be more cost effective for you to simply replace your oil boiler. Our experts can provide you with the best advice in order for you to make an informed decision regarding your oil boiler.
Unless a formal exemption is obtained from OFTEC, you will be legally required to have a condensing boiler fitted. This is because condensing boilers are considerably more energy efficient.
Unless the installation of your new oil boiler makes your storage tank non-complaint, you do not need to replace it.
With that said, it is recommended that you replace it alongside your oil boiler.
This is because you may struggle to make an insurance claim if an incident arises and your oil tank does not comply with current legislation.
Your oil boiler burner could be locking out due to having no oil or there being a leak in the pipeline. This could also be a result of contaminated oil.
